What are Income Producing Activites?

Income Producing ActivitiesIf you’re someone who has ever been involved with network marketing, you’ve probably heard someone on a training call tell you about “income producing activities.” And along with that, they gave you the understanding that if you didn’t focus primarily on doing those activities, over everything else, then your business would fail miserably.

Absolutely true! As entrepreneurs, we want to keep ourselves busily engaged in activities that will grow our business. In doing so, it’s imperative that we’re conscious of which activities are actually helping our business progress instead of restricting it.

Now you might be saying, “What in the heck are you talking about Dave? That makes no sense at all!” I would tell you that you might be right, BUT, I can explain myself a bit here. So bear with me.

Income Producing Activities

  • Advertising
  • Calling Prospects
  • Collecting Money!!!

Anything aside from these is considered to be an “add on.” So, one might consider checking their email to be something that is growing their business. Reading a newsletter you’ve subscribed to, answering questions from current associates or similar activities are not income producing. Sure, in order to keep things going, those things have to be done, but must not detract from the things that make your money.

Set Time Aside for Only Income Producing Activities

We’ve all heard of establishing a daily method of operation, or for those who haven’t heard of this, a simple outline of your day to keep you on track. Make sure you pencil in your income producing activities first and piece in all other activities around that block of time. Then, stick to it! Don’t allow anything short of an emergency to interrupt you during that time. Sure, keep the flexibility we all came into the home based business industry for, but the only way to have the lifestyle you desire is by treating your business seriously. That means doing primarily those things which will bring in the paycheck.

With that said, a DMO (daily method of operation) is good, only if you can put it to use. Having the perfect DMO can only work if you have a complimenting environment. Speaking from personal experience here….no matter the intention, if your surroundings are restricting, income producing activities won’t receive the focus they deserve. For example, if your office is at the kitchen table, and your DMO has you working your income producing activities right when the kids get home from school, you’re not going to accomplish much.

Plan ahead. Set yourself up to win.

Treat income producing activity time like an extremely overweight man treats his trip to the pastry shop! Nothing gets in the way!
