Marketing a Home Based Business – Expand or Die

September 17th, 2012 | No Comments |

Expand or DieIn the home business industry, success is all about generating leads, plugging those leads into a system or prospecting those leads. Without leads, or people to talk to, your business is dead where it stands. We all know that.

However, it’s amazing to me to see so many new people sitting in lead poverty, or the absence of leads! I mean, if you want to see true insanity, watch a failing home based business owner. Chances are, they’re still posting that same ad on Craigslist, in the same city and section as they did when they started their business. And it still isn’t producing any leads, yet, they continue because that’s all they know how to do. They’re hoping for different results by doing the same things over and over. Why, because it’s comfortable. They know how to do it.

Don’t Get Caught Using Marketing that Doesn’t Work!

Success in your marketing efforts requires you to try new things, experiment, change things, get rid of old habits and learn new ones. Unless it’s working extremely well for you, promoting your business in the same manner you did five years ago probably isn’t as effective as it used to be.

Jim Rohn once said, “Formal education will make you a living; selfeducation will make you a fortune.” Learning new ways to promote and market your business is part of that “Self-education.” You must, and I repeat, MUST set aside time in your day to learn marketing. I just composed a blog post about “Income Producing Activities.” If you have a chance and are new to the network marketing industry, read it. Marketing is one of those things.

For example, we all know Facebook. It’s an awesome, awesome tool for the home based business industry. Connecting with old friends, joining groups of similar interest and the Facebook CPC advertising all work when it comes to generating leads. You can create a personal profile, and also an actual custom Facebook page for your business. With the right know-how or designer, you can create lead capture pages or informational pages to captivate interest.

If you do a search on Facebook for PRIVATE WiFi, you’ll see what they’ve done to create interest and educate their visitors on their product, which is security while using public WiFi spots. Facebook is more than just a timeline. It’s another way to find customers.

Yet, there are those who still only use it to connect with old friends or people they have met face-to-face before. They refuse to learn it. Why? My best guess……it’s because they have to step outside of their comfort zone.

Marketing Lesson #1: Success comes to those who are comfortable with getting uncomfortable. Especially when dealing with marketing.

Marketing Lesson #2: Engage in at least three different areas of marketing. When one fails, the other two can sustain you until you replace the third. Set yourself up to win.

Marketing Lesson #3: The secret to success in a home based business is not really a secret. It’s just marketing!

Instead of being just a “home based business owner,” become a professional marketer. That way, if the opportunity you are part of drops off the map, you’re still in good shape, because you know how to market.

A great Roman Emperor once said, “Expand or Die.” Apply that principle to your business and you can’t go wrong.
