Earlier today, I received an email that contained some disturbing text that I’d like to share with you.

But before I do….

…answer me this: Do you believe that everyone, regardless of race, religion, gender, physical appearance, circumstance or political preference deserves a shot at creating success in their life?

With that question in mind, allow me to take you back to that email I received this morning. But before I paste the text of the email, let me throw out a quick disclaimer for the person who composed this email. I hope that by the time you finish reading this article, that you will understand this concept, that everyone deserves their shot at success. I share your words, not only to teach you, but to help others who may be struggling with this very same principle. With that said, I do this with my best intentions.

I am a firm believer in hard work. If there’s a job to be done, and I’m the one responsible for doing it, then it’s time to do what it takes to get it done. That’s what makes the world go round. However, there are those who think that their job is what defines them, and makes them who they are. And that’s a pity. It’s just your job, not your life!

Let me explain.

In my small community, most people are known by the place they work at, such as Joey from Haralson Tires, Aaron over at Case, Dave at Freeport or Larry at Farmers Insurance. This is how a good portion of this valley’s population knows and refers to each other.

When you first get started in a home based business, you have all kinds of emotions to deal with. You’re excited and at the same time, maybe a bit nervous, depending on your experience in the industry. Sometimes a lack of knowing what to do can get your nerves all in a bunch, and if that lack of knowledge isn’t fixed, the results often end up in a failed business attempt.

Have you ever Quit a home business before?

If things aren’t going as well as you had expected in your home business, the easiest thing to do is quit! In your mind, quitting solves almost all of your problems, except the very biggest one, which was the one that convinced you into starting a home based business. All the other problems such as monthly expenditures and failed marketing campaigns are now gone.

But, that one little issue that drove you to this industry is still there. Is it a lack in income? Maybe it’s the lack of free time? Whatever the reason, it’s still there!

Since I work from home, I am able to be flexible with my work schedule. On an average day, I work around 4 to 5 hours which gives me the time to be involved in the lives of my children.

This year I have decided to volunteer to coach my daughters girls basketball team. My experience in coaching 10, 11 and 12 year old girls is extremely limited, but so far I’ve had a blast. Having recently moved into the Thatcher school district, I wasn’t sure I would be chosen out of the many who had volunteered to be coaches this year. Most of them have graduated from Thatcher High and have been residents of this area since then. But when I received the call to coach, I was told that I came highly recommended. Can you say, “confidence boost?”

With that said, I’m a coach.

Have you ever had someone tell you that your opportunity or business was just a “Get rich quick scheme?” Heck, maybe those were the words that came out of your own mouth at one point in time. Whichever scenario fits you best, I would hope that you actually know what a get rich quick scheme is, or, as I like to call it, a “Get rich quicker scheme!”

What is a Get Rich Quick Scheme?

A scheme is defined as: A large-scale systematic plan or arrangement for attaining some particular object or putting a particular idea into effect.

So to go right along with that definition, a get rich quick scheme is a large scale systematic plan for attaining riches, or to help others obtain riches.

In my last blog post I told a murder story, so to stay in alignment with my doomsday streak, I think I’ll write about either you or I dying. That sounds much more interesting anyway! But really, all jokes aside, have you thought about it yet? Have you thought about what will happen to your family if something happens to you? I guess what I’m getting at here is, as an entrepreneur, do you have a life insurance policy?

I’m sort of a late starter when it comes to life insurance. I’ve only been to the doctors office once in the last decade or so, but recently, I started thinking about all the other factors of life that could happen, leaving my family in an extremely hard spot. Naturally, my solution is to continue building my business, which will continue to pay them monthly, even if I’m not around. But what if something happens to the company I work with, then what will they do? With the economy as sensitive as it has been in the past several years, anything could happen.
